Crossover fic
Alrighty, so ages ago I posted the first part of my Rory Lucas GG/OTH crossover fic and now I am posting another part! I think! LOL Yeah, I'll post more.
“She'll be okay Lorelai. She is a grown woman and she knows exactly what she's doing.” Luke placed his hand on top of Lorelai's. “Okay, I'll make sure she's okay. Call her, tell her to stop by before she leaves.”
“Oh crap, I'm late for work.” She tilted her head and grinned at the man she was madly in love with and added, “you knew that already though didn't you?”
“Yes, now leave the diner, call your daughter and I'll talk to her.” He leaned over and kissed her goodbye.
Lorelai grabbed her purse, stood, and headed for the door. “See how wonderful I am? I waited until I was at the door before getting my cell phone out Luke.”
“No, you just couldn't find your phone until you got to the door Lorelai but thanks for the thought.” He chuckled.
“Hmph. You're welcome Luke” she said as she walked out the door with a wave behind her.
“Yes you are stopping in to see him. You have to tell him goodbye or he will never forgive you...or me.” She rarely ordered her daughter to do anything but this time was different.
“Mom, I have to go. I have a flight I have to catch. I cannot miss it Mom because if I miss my flight I will have to get another one tomorrow and that is simply cutting it too close to the funeral.”
Silence...she heard only her mother's breath on the other end and knew she would never give up.
“Fine. I'll go to the diner and say a quick goodbye to Luke.” Giving in was never easy.
“Thank you. Stay safe Rory and remember to call me the moment you get to...where is it?”
“Tree Hill, North Carolina.”
“Yeah, Tree Hill. The instant you get there. Oh, and you have to call your father at some point. You know how he likes for you to call whenever you travel anywhere.”
“Okay, okay, Mom. Goodbye.” Rory hung up the phone before her mother thought of something else for her to do before leaving. She looked at the time and realized she had to hurry or she'd miss the required two hours early for every flight.
“And you're sure this is what you want to do. You have to go to this town in North Carolina and write this story?” Luke asked her yet again if she was certain she wanted to do something like this when she didn't know what she might be walking into in Tree Hill.
“Yes Luke.”
“Okay.” He knew Rory and he knew this is what she felt she had to do. There would be no changing her mind no matter how crazy he thought the idea might be. “So, are you driving or flying?”
“Flying. I do have to leave now or I won't get there early enough. This two hours early still throws me off, even after all the traveling I've had to do.” Rory stood and started to walk to the door.
“Wait Rory.” Luke stopped her before she walked out the door. “Caeser?!?”
“Yeah Luke?”
“Take care of the diner. I am taking Rory to the airport.”
“Okay boss.”
He glared at the man now standing beside him. “Do NOT burn anything especially my diner.”
“Yes sir. Got it. No burning.”
He looked at Rory. “And no arguing out of you Gilmore. I am taking you to the airport and I will get your car to your mother's.” He put his arm around her and walked her out of the diner and to his truck. “Get in and I'll get your bags.”
“Thank you Luke.”
“Anytime.”
He grabbed her bags, put them in the back of his truck and they left for the airport. Rory had plenty of time and realized she could do some searching on the internet while she was waiting to board the plane. Once through the various security checks, she grabbed her laptop, air card, and notebook to search for websites with any information at all about Tree Hill. She wanted to know as much as she could about this small North Carolina town and its inhabitants. Rory searched and found that the newest coach was young, had played on the team that won their state championship, led his college team to a championship or two as well, and had written a book. She was puzzled and trying to figure out how a man that could write a book would be the local high school basketball coach when her flight was called. She grabbed her stuff and boarded the plane. Once Rory was settled in her seat, she grabbed her notebook and began deciphering her notes she'd scribbled down moments earlier. She made a mental note to pick up his book and read it before meeting him later and interviewing him.
She rented a car at the airport, bought a map and sets off for Tree Hill. Finally finding the town, she finds a room and asks where to buy the book Lucas Scott has written.
“Oh darlin' you can find that boy's books anywhere in town. We had about 20 of them in here but we sold the last copy two days ago. It's a big seller around here that's for certain. I imagine the first shop you come to after leaving here will have his book. It's a good read and not expensive at all.” She looked Rory up and down and Rory could feel her eyes burning a hole right through her skin.
“Thank you ma'am. I'll buy one as soon as I find the first store. See you later.” Rory waved to the gentleman sitting in the chair in the corner and walked out the door, took a left, walked into the first store she saw and sure enough, sitting on the counter were about 10 copies of Lucas Scott's book. “I'll take one of these please.”
“Will that be all miss?”
“Yes sir. Thank you.” She paid for the book and told him she didn't need a bag. “Thanks anyway but I'll be reading it as soon as I leave here.”
“You should go to the park and read it. It's beautiful there this time of year...and today I'm sure it is quiet and peaceful...perfect for reading.” He gave her directions to the park, Rory thanked him again and made her way out of the store and over to the park.
