Roomies fic

New Roomies fic. He's an angry guy...

“What the hell is wrong with you Ray?” Morris was getting fed up with him.
“Nothing. Sorry, I'm fine. Coffee, I need a cup of coffee. You’re good here. I'll be right back okay?” He stormed out the doors and into the cold night air. He wanted to yell. He wasn't sure what he would yell but he knew he couldn't keep any of it inside anymore.
“Hey Barnett.” Gates waltzed past him and into the ER but not before asking if he knew where Neela was. “I’ve been looking for her.”
“No, sorry. I haven't seen her.” Ray thought Gates seemed way too chipper to be walking into work and it only made him angrier with the world.
Sighing, Ray now knew the things he wanted to yell. As he walked down the street to get his coffee, he thought about how he hated Gates but realized he wasn't sure if it was Gates he didn't like or if it was the fact that Gates was spending time with Neela. Neela, his one time roomie and the one that became the best friend he'd ever had. Now Neela was too busy to even say hello to him. When Ray went to visit Abby after she'd had the little one, she saw right through the facade and knew he was hurting even then. She told him to wait. He had to be patient and Neela would turn to him when she was ready. Ray knew in his mind that was the truth but his heart was breaking every second Neela avoided him. He grabbed his coffee, practically threw his money down, thanked the vendor and slowly walked back to County still in the same bad mood he was in when he left.
He still wanted to yell. He wanted to yell because he missed his best friend. He wanted to yell because she was avoiding him and the only thing he wanted to do was help her through her grief. He wanted to yell because Gates so easily stepped right into his place and Ray was terrified Gates would waltz his way into her heart the same way he just waltzed into the ER. He wanted to yell at Neela just to let her see that he was hurting for her and all he wanted to do was to help her. He wanted to beg her to let him in, to let him be there, to hold her and wipe her tears away, to sit on their couch and watch the stupid poker show she loved so much. He just wanted to yell.
“DAMMIT!” He threw his cup of coffee at the side of the building for emphasis at the exact moment Gates and Neela walked out of the hospital together. Together. And Ray did all he could do not to throw up...and not punch Gates.
“You okay Barnett?”
“Yeah Gates, fine.” He looked at her and tried hiding the pain he was in, knowing full well he was failing miserably. “Hey Neela.”
“Ray” Neela replied with barely any feeling at all. She turned to the man standing beside her and asked “Are you ready?” Gates nodded and they walked away without another word while Ray wished he had the cup of coffee back in his hand to throw at the back of the man's head.

Tis all I have for now. And I have a feeling I'll end up fixing this little bit a few more times before it's ever posted anywhere else!! I still need to work on the Liason fic I started the other day!

Peace, Love, and Giggles,
Deanna
