AWTR fic

I'm nowhere near finished this fic but I figure why not post a little bit of it to see if anyone is interested in reading it if and when I finish it! It was inspired by the song Halo by Beyonce and I'm not even really a fan of Beyonce! LOL She's got two songs I just love though...Halo and 'Flaws and All'. Anyway, I'll post a bit but keep in mind this is in no way finished and the more I read it the more I want to change so by the end it might not even be the same fic I post here today!

He took another sip of his drink and continued to dwell on how much he truly hated this day. She'd been gone fifteen years now and it had only seemed more difficult as time wore on instead of easier like so many said would happen. He could feel her everywhere. He could see her around every corner in the hospital where he spent so much time working. He should have realized the instant he decided to pursue a medical degree he would see her everywhere. He'd spent so much time with her in the hospital when she first became sick. The exact place where he felt completely helpless so long ago. Jamie Sullivan Carter was everywhere and Landon no longer knew how he could go on. He only knew he would drink himself into a stupor the way he always had on the anniversary of her death. Tonight, fifteen years ago he lost the love of his life and now he was alone again, gulping down his second drink and begging for more so he could forget, if only for one night a year.

"You know, you should never drink that fast Dr. Carter."

He glanced to the side trying to place the voice and then the face. Not having any luck with either he simply mumbled and went back to his drink assuming she might take the hint and leave.

"Ignore me all you want but I am not going anywhere."

Her voice sounded somewhat familiar but he still had no idea who this woman was. His mind was simply too fuzzy to worry about it so again he ignored her hoping she might go away.

She laughed. "Wow, take you out of the hospital and you lose every last bit of your bedside manner don't you?"

Without glancing at her again he spoke, "Look, I'm alone here and I'm drinking so if you could just maybe move down a stool or two and stop talking I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks." He added the thanks and hoped it would help her move a little bit faster. He waited and realized there was no such luck. She didn't budge.

"No. You didn't seem yourself today at work and I was worried. Thought you might be here once I realized what today is so I thought I would stop by and see if you needed anything." She wanted to touch his arm for emphasis but knew she couldn't...she shouldn't. He was hurting and made it abundantly clear many times to all of the women in the hospital he was never going to be involved with another woman again...romantic or otherwise. So they all stayed away...until tonight. After fifteen years this needed to stop. Tonight she knew what he was going to do and she was going to save him from his annual hangover and subsequent sick days if she wasn't already too late.
