Author's Note: Uhh, I don't think this was beta'd so all mistakes are my own. I wrote this a while ago. This all came about because of a cool weapon on CSI NY a while back and then they ended up using it on Law and Order SVU a week ago! It so seems like something Steve would have, would want to share with Danny and this story came about after a discussion with [livejournal.com profile] shanachie_quill because, well, kinda seems like most of my ideas come after our conversations! LOL Here's a link to the weapon WASP :D Enjoy!

"Why are you so damn happy this morning?"

"I dunno. Am I?" Steve was completely oblivious to the fact his eyes are bright, he's grinning from ear to ear and that it is not a common sight on his face first thing.

Danny looked at Steve like he had two heads on top of his shoulders and shook his head. "So, I guess Cat is on leave? Or at least on land?"

Surprised, Steve looked at Danny and shook his head. "No, I haven't talked to her in a while. Why would you say that?"

"Oh I don't know. Maybe because every other time you've had a smile that huge on your face it was because she was around." Danny did not feel like going into any details because for some reason, as of late, he was none too fond of Steve's affection for the brilliant, amazing, beautiful, and oh so helpful Cat. He knew in his gut why even her name alone annoyed him so much but of course he wasn't about to admit it...yet.

Steve chuckled and replied while walking a little closer to Danny than maybe he should. "No." He paused and added "really?"

"Yes Steve. Now can we just stop the chitchat and get to the office so we can work on the case?"

Steve grinned and nodded as they walked up the stairs instead of waiting on the elevator. As they approached the door, Steve opened it and asked, "So, you don't wanna know anymore why I'm happy?"

"No, not so much."

"Because you thought it was Cat, now you just want to drop the subject of my happiness altogether?"

"Yes Steve. I would like to drop the subject so we can get to this case okay?"

"Fine, suit yourself." He placed his hand on Danny's back leading him to the computer table where they listened to the information Kono and Chin had already found and tried to decide where to go next in the case.

The day went fairly smooth with only a couple of minor bumps along the way which Danny counted as a good thing. He could not get Steve's happiness out of his head and as much as he wanted to ask why, Danny was not at all certain he wanted to know the answer, especially if it is some new woman that's made Steve all giddy. Although he really had no one to blame but himself considering Danny hasn't said a word to Steve about the fact he might not want him all happy over a woman and he should be the one putting a smile on his partner's face. Steve left the office a little early for a meeting with the Governor and Danny contemplated waiting around. In the end he decided to go home and sulk with a good steak, a six pack of beer, and some sort of completely unhealthy dessert he planned to pick up on the way home. When Danny arrived at the store he opened the glove box to grab his wallet he tossed in there earlier and was not at all happy with what his hand touched. "He replaced it. He uses one, I yell at him for three days straight which obviously doesn't seem to matter at all because he's replaced the grenade." Danny leaned over and noticed something else that he knew he didn't put there. "What the?" He pulled out a sheath which was a happy little home for some sort of knife. "Steven" he grumbled before abandoning his plans for the evening knowing he had to settle this and try to stop the crazy.

He pulled into Steve's driveway and Danny tried his best to calm down but it was useless. There was no calming him in that moment. He opened the door, grabbed the knife, got out of the car and as he heard the door slam he cringed hoping he hadn't done any damage. He stomped to the door, grabbed the handle, thankful it was unlocked, and flung open the door before yelling "Steven!"

"Yeah?" Steve had no idea what to expect when he walked around the corner and saw Danny pacing. Steve looked at Danny's hand and saw the present he'd placed in his car that morning although he wasn't expecting to see Danny's white knuckle grip around the sheath. "Hey, you found it!"

"Found it? Yes Steven if you are referring to this lovely knife I found in my glove box beside the brand new grenade well then you are exactly right. I found it." Danny stormed across the room, tossed the knife in the chair and stood in front of Steve, finger pointing and fairly certain there was smoke billowing out of his head from everywhere imaginable. "You are insane. I said I would be more than willing to pay for therapy and now I'm pretty sure I will send you away somewhere against your will and there isn't anyone in the world that would question it. I have a daughter. Grace is her name. You know her. She likes you so why would you insist on putting things in my car that could kill her? What if she had been the one to open the glove box and touch the grenade? Yes, it is all taped up and the pin cannot be removed with all of the pretty tape on there but seriously Steve? First of all a grenade and then when you use it to blow a door off I thought 'great, no more grenade' but you replaced it! Why? And now a knife? A rather large knife that doesn't even look like a normal knife." He thought he was about to explode when he saw a smile appear on Steve's face. "No, do not smile at me. You do not get to smile at me right now after I found your weapons in my car!"

"But that is why I was so happy this morning. My knives were delivered and..."

"Wait, knives? As in more than one of these things?" he asked as he gestured toward the knife in the chair.

"Well yeah."

"Well yeah...of course." Danny threw his arms in the air and rolled his eyes as he began to pace once more. "Why would I ever assume that you would only have one of those considering you can only use one at a time? Wait, you're super SEAL and of course you can use two at a time."

"I thought it made sense to give you one."

Danny stopped pacing, turned and glared at Steve. "When exactly does that sort of knife come in handy?"

Steve thought about it and it began to sink in that while it was the best knife for him it wasn't exactly the best knife for Danny. He took a deep breath and gave Danny his response while waiting for the fallout. "In the water." As the words fell from his lips, Steve realized how ludicrous they sounded and couldn't hold back his laughter.

Danny stared dumbfounded until he heard Steve's laughter. "Obviously I don't have to say another word on the subject of the knife. I still don’t see why you felt the need to replace the grenade when it clearly is not at all sensible when I have a daughter that I would like to keep safe as she rides in my car."

"Does Grace open your glove box?"

Danny stared at the man standing in front of him and wondered where exactly this line of questioning might lead. "No, not usually but..."

"No, no buts. So she doesn't usually open your glove box." Danny shook his head and Steve continued his questions. "We usually have your car when we're working a case right?"

"Right."

"Sometimes people won't let us inside somewhere we need to be right?" Danny nodded in agreement and Steven continued. "Sometimes I have to get in the water right?"

Danny tilted his head. "Yeah but it tends to be most of the time instead of sometimes. Also, the water has nothing at all to do with your grenade. Why?"

"If I have to follow a dangerous criminal into the water I would like to have a weapon that would protect me if something should go wrong and if something happens and you have to go into the water after a criminal, well, I will know you have a weapon that will keep you safe. Which is why you now have a knife. And as for the grenade, well, I had one in there before and you never knew about it until I had to use it."

"I do not go in the water after criminals so I would have no use for the knife."

"What if you had to in order to save me?" Steve quickly added "or Kono or Chin?" He watched as Danny nodded and continued. "You would go in the water and you might need a weapon. Or, if we are in your car and I don't have my knife on me, there will be one in the car that I can use. Same with the grenade."

"You carry a grenade on you?"

Steve grinned. "Well, no but you know what I was trying to say."

Danny really didn't want to admit Steve's reasoning made any kind of sense but it did. And the knife could obviously be used in places other than underwater. "Yes. I understand what you were trying to say and I even understand your thought process a bit but it doesn't mean I am at all comfortable having a grenade and a knife in my glove box." He inhaled sharply as all of these thoughts came rushing through his mind and asked
"Do I even want to look in my trunk? I really do not want to open the trunk of my car ever again do I?"

Steve smiled. "No, there's nothing in your trunk. Well, nothing that I put in there. I don't think Kono would do something like that without telling you first." He waited to make sure Danny had calmed down and that his breathing was back to normal before speaking. "So, do you want me to take the weapons out of the glove box?"

"No" he replied with a sigh. "I will just lock the glove box from now on and hide the key from Grace."

"I can be in charge of the key." Steve said with a little too much enthusiasm.

"No you are not going to be in charge of the key because I don't want you putting anything else in there." He smiled at his partner and shook his head. "What have you done to me?"

Steve was beaming. "I am a great influence on you Danny."

"No you are definitely not."

Steve started to walk toward the kitchen and asked over his shoulder "Wanna stay and eat? I've got steaks."

Danny had almost forgotten about his earlier plans for the night and decided since it was Steve's fault he hadn't eaten yet; he would definitely stay and eat his food. He would also figure out how to convince the other man that something sugary sweet and completely unhealthy would be perfect for later because he owed him.

tis all
